Working with Existing Marketers: How We Build Strong Partnerships

Not every business has a dedicated marketing team, but when they do, collaboration is key. At Bench Strength Marketing, we work alongside internal marketers to amplify their impact and align efforts with business goals. Here’s how we make it happen.

Starting from Scratch

Sometimes, we meet marketers at the very beginning of their journey. One client, a tech startup, hired a marketer early on. We stepped in to:

  • Develop an initial short-term marketing plan to build momentum
  • Help the marketer understand the industry landscape
  • Set up essential systems and processes
  • Evaluate platforms, build tools, and launch foundational campaigns
  • Create realistic activity reports to manage expectations

Our approach was hands-on: biweekly meetings for six months, then monthly as we executed a six-month plan. After a year, we supported their transition to long-term planning while remaining available for guidance.

Getting Up to Speed

In other cases, we help onboard marketers who are new to the industry. For one client, after a year of working together, they hired a marketer who later left. We assisted in onboarding the replacement – an experienced marketer unfamiliar with their industry. Our role included:

  • Keeping projects moving during the transition
  • Teaching industry fundamentals
  • Gradually stepping back as confidence grew

We continued periodic planning and management check-ins until the marketer was ready to operate independently.

Managing the Team

Modern marketing often involves a mix of internal staff and external specialists. For one client, we manage a coordinator and external contributors to ensure:

  • Strategic alignment
  • Timely execution
  • High-level planning and performance oversight

Our involvement spans long-term management (3–4 years), succession planning, and training.

Filling the Gaps

Many businesses have people who can handle parts of marketing – but not all. We identify gaps, fill them, or source the right resources to get the task done. Our goal is to integrate existing talent – employees or freelancers – into a cohesive plan that supports broader business objectives.
